Reality is unreal

Hello readers!

It’s been a while and I’m well into some new projects, but a late update is better than no update!

Firstly, I’ve joined Candice Albach‘s latest and greatest – a photography portfolio that will demonstrate just a hint of her incredible talents! If you remember my post about Candice’s photoshoot for Anami Vice (if not, click here!) you’ll know she has a great blog that you aspiring photographers should start following immediately. Go now! When I’m not set designing/prop shopping for her shoots I’m camera assisting – learning new things by the minute. I’ll keep you posted as the shoots progress!

Can you guess the theme of the portfolio with this photo hint?

Secondly and presently most time-consuming in my life is my job production designing for the reality show revolving around Rockstar Academy in the heart of downtown Vancouver. This is my biggest-scale project yet. What chaos! In three weeks I’ve painted/furnished/decorated four rooms, learned how to wallpaper very awkward walls, and most importantly, met some of the coolest friendliest people ever. A big thanks to Kelly McLeod and Janice Rae for their help in pre-production, and another thanks to Jonathan Williams, Kirsten Tammela and the Studio Guys for continuing to keep me company/sane during production!

Contrary to this image I work hard..

Curved, endless, three-doored wall

Stay tuned for more photos from both assignments. Don’t forget to leave your thoughts!

Sara’s Top 10 Funny Online Videos of 2010

Hello readers!

Just to switch it up from my regular work-related posts in order to keep the average reader interested, I’ve decided to do a New Year post. I can’t say if all of these videos were first posted in the year 2010, but that’s the year I found them. Some are youtubed from television (see how I verbed youtube? (and verb?)), some are FunnyOrDie, or CollegeHumor, or just plain YouTube. Regardless of origin, here they are – counting down to my personal favorite – the top ten most memorably funny online videos of 2010.

10.  SNL Digital Short: The Curse

(Click image to go to video link.)

Gosh, if only long luscious man-curls were a thing of the ’60s, maybe we would see THIS hilarious Jon Hamm more often. As if Andy Samberg wasn’t funny enough, not only did this video reinstate my interest in SNL, but it also gave a hysterical look at an actor with no real comedic appeal up until this point. Plus – saxophone. Always funny.

9. Jimmy Kimmel’s Handsome Men’s Club

So what if Jimmy Kimmel’s show can’t get me or the rest of the world to tune in on a regular basis. Most of his material that makes it to youtube is gold. (Remember I’m f***ing Ben Affleck? AND the Matt Damon rebuttal.) Get enough handsome actors together and audiences won’t take them entirely seriously no matter what (ie. Ocean’s Eleven).

8. にゃらんのデートの下見の巻
(Jalan’s Cat Advertisements)

Who cares what the cat is saying?? It’s hilarious. And it gets funnier with the more versions you watch (click here).

7. Michael Bay Verizon FiOS commercial

Of course Michael Bay is a joke. But Michael Bay joking about the fact that he’s a joke? You know what the word for that is? Awesome.

6. Conan O’Brien & Wing Pang are Friends

I know I know, this is the third entertainment television clip I’ve posted – I swear it’s the last one. But obviously with Conan’s famous move from television to internet in 2010 (and back again), everyone’s got a favorite Conan video from his ‘internet limbo’ time. This was mine. (Click here to go to the full width video if you aren’t seeing it here.)

5. Dave Grohl in FRESH POTS!

FRESH POTS! is easily my most frequently used expression of 2010. I happen to have something in common with Grohl – coffee addiction. The difference is, celebrities like Grohl make regular people like me look like sissies by taking everything a step further. And similarly to this case, that step is often hospitalization.

4. Marcel The Shell With Shoes On

This one barely made the 2010 list, since I only found it in December. But I’m so happy it did ’cause dangit, how cute and clever is this video?! This is the second smartest short-short film I saw in 2010. (For the first smartest, see my number one video).

3. Trale Lewous Skittles Commercials

The only reason this video (and the number two video) beat the smart number four video, is because it is so NOT smart. This video is SO dumb (which I respond very positively to) and the character is so absurdly opposite of the product (Skittles being kid-friendly) that it makes a hilariously perfect funny video. I will forever and ever, for the rest of my life, giggle out loud at every grocery store check-out.

2. The Best of Tourette’s Guy, Parts 1-4

I refuse to feel guilty for laughing at these videos until someone proves true to me that A. he actually has Tourette’s syndrome (it seems obvious, I know, but it’s calling ACTING guys – some people are really good at it), B. the rumor of him dying as a result of his disability and/or C. he didn’t post these videos himself; ’cause, you know, maybe he has a sense of humor about his real/fake disability. But even if you do prove it…. I can’t be responsible for my upbringing and subsequent need to express myself by means of laughter. (For more videos of Danny the Tourette’s Guy, see the official website!)

1. BEFORE AFTER with Zachary Quinto

TA-DA! Yes, okay, a lot of you will likely be disappointed with my first choice (a lot being like, six people, probably). And yes, I went through a brief Zachary Quinto phase that biased my final decision. But seriously guys, this video is smart, funny, and only after viewing this did I really appreciate short-short comedies, despite the fact that I’ve been helping make them for the past four years. No kidding, it was months before I had any desire to see a feature comedy after I watched this – features seemed so drawn out comparatively. It was a tough decision to pick only one Quinto short (hard competition was Hostage: A Love Story – watch this and other Quinto shorts at his website.) But I promise you – if you watch BEFORE AFTER twice, you will come to love it too!

There it is! I know I’m not a terribly unique online video watcher – most of these you have probably seen without my guidance. But hopefully you saw at least one or two videos you haven’t seen before!(after)

Videos that didn’t make the top 10 cut, but are still hilarious:

- Old Spice: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like (it was too obvious a choice)
- A Trailer for Every Academy Award Winning Movie Ever Made
- Huggies: I’ve Got Chic in My Pants
- Justin Bieber Parody – Baby (’80s Trance Polka Version)
- A Side of Sulu You Have Never Seen Before
- Our Grandson Loves Conan (to see the full Conan promo this baby is watching, click here)

Thanks for reading! And please, feel free to leave a comment or message with YOUR top 2010 online videos! (Contact info found here.)

Happy New Year all!

Sara’s work on MuchMusic, whaaa?!

Hello readers!

GOLLY I’m excited!! My first big credit, and all thanks to the wonderful people at RockSTAR Music Corp., including Adam H. Hurstfield and Michael Hektoen, director Ali Visanji, Amber Hope (for getting me the gig!) and of course the lovely star Elise Estrada!

You should have seen it, readers! What a glamorous weekend, shooting Elise Estrada‘s You’re So Hollywood vid. Ironically, it was ultra-Hollywood! On set, three very lovely ladies (among others) – Janice Chow, Emily Churchyard and Sabrina Chevallier – were so greatly helpful to the art cause!

Check out the video while it’s still fresh by visiting the Fresh Videos here on the MuchMusic website. If you can’t find it that way, check out Elise’s MuchMusic profile!

Of course, I haven’t forgotten pictures! Visit Elise Estrada’s Facebook Fan Page to view some great shots and the Mini Elise cut of You’re So Hollywood. For a few less glamorous behind the scenes shots as taken for art department, see below!
